xabier gantzarain. berria

He isn’t the author of a lot of work, or to put it another way… he hasn’t published many books, and that, to us, is worthy of merit in a place where books are too easily and readily published. In the world of literature in Basque, those who manage to build a nest seem to be able to lay a limitless amount of eggs. Gantzarain is different. His writings are dispersed throughout magazines, newspapers, booklets, pocket books etc… Today, we would like to draw attention to his writings in the newspaper Berria. There is more profoundness and more poetry and prose to be found in the few lines he writes there than in many other books. And everyday his writings end up in the blue recycling container. That short sell-by-date makes Gantzarain’s turnings even more valuable.

les mcneil / gillian mcain

This book that looks at the birth and development of the Punk movement is incomparable. There is a simple reason for this. The book, from the beginning to the end, is entirely made up of the narratives of the musicians, journalists, groupies, managers, drug dealers and others who were around at those times. So, we get to hear different and often contradicting views on the different things that went on. The authors have done humongous work in getting all of this together and down on paper in an intelligible fashion. From the first flowering buds of punk in the USA in the 60s, passing through the urban city punk of New York to the explosion of British punk and its popularity, all is explained in this book. Entertainment your shelves would thank you for.

un lugar equivocado

brech avenes

"Un lugar equivocado" is a humorous comic built around the story of the different characters who get together for a school reunion. While the comic is "choral" in character, the main protagonist is Robbie. In this comic the other main characters’ envy, love, fears and frustrations are centred around him. The main characteristic of this comic is the innovative way the vignettes are used and the original way the narrative is built. It won this year’s “Daring Creation” Award at the International Comics Festival in Angouleme.

herri ixilean

jon cazenave

Jon Cazenave headed north in the search of the origins of his surname. And once there, as well as meeting people with the same surname, he came across the geographic and human scenery that he portrays to us in his dark and mysterious photographs. You won’t come across any posing in the photos. What you will see are gestures and movements captured spontaneously. Cazenave’s imagery is akin to the moment when something unusual flickers in the headlights of your car for a second and then is gone. The book “herri ixilean” is a dark one. Published in a clear and elegant format.
