punto de vista festival
This year we’re going to the Navarrese International Documentary Cinema Festival. From the 19th to the 23rd of February risktaking non-fiction films can be seen in the capital of Navarre. This year, amongst other things, there’s going to be a retrospective about Brazilian cinema.
brech’s new work
The Belgian comic artist Brech Evens’ second comic book has been published in Spanish. Like The Enthusiasts (De Liefhebbers), the previous A Wrong Place (Ergens waar je niet wil zijn), it’s marvellous. Brech’s beautiful, colourful drawings are incomparable. Helped by his personal, unique
style, he creates narration and style that many novelists and film-makers would love to be able to manage.
architecture thieves
The architect Zaha Hadid is constructing a building
called Wangjing SOHO in Beijing. At the same time,
a copy of Zaha Hadid’s work is being built in the
enormous city Chongquing (It is bigger than both
Beijing and Shanghai). The pirate architects, what’s
more, are going faster than the people in Beijing
and will probably finish first.
adce digital book
The Art Directors Club of Europe awards design and
publicity prizes every year and publishes the best
work in a book. The balde has collaborated in this
project for several years now and this year, “with
great pride and satisfaction” we can announce that
the ADCE book is going to be digital and free. Where? At this address:
chocolate and sponge cake
The menu’s been extended. Until now our tea had been coffee and biscuits, but now, following the Gernika project’s example, a group of people in the Bilbao area have created Chocolate and Sponge Cake as an opportunity to speak with many creative people. Harkaitz Cano has spoken about the memory of music; Hedoi Etxarte’s latest work, Sinplistak, was another topic of conversation. To know who else is going to be there:
gas
Gallinero All Stars. These are the chickens in the chicken shack: Telmo Trenor, Yanu and Ru. Gallinero All Stars, as well as taking part in the hip-hop group, also founded %100 Gourmet Records and have since organised a string of parties in Donostia. Many great groups and projects are getting together in this fun chicken shack to get you up and dancing with their rhythms and rhymes.
emak bakia screenings
Until now we’ve usually had to go abroad to enjoy
Oskar Alegria’s remarkable films. But, while he still shows internationally, he’s also started showing his films in the Basque Country. To find out about this, visit his website and write the dates in your diary. You won’t regret it.
baianai university
They called us from Segovia’s Baianai University
to ask about The balde. They liked our project and wanted some explanations. And, a couple of months ago, we saw The balde in a compilation about creativity, design and communication. We all think our own baby’s the most beautiful, but it’s especially pleasing when somebody else says so.
hura ez da lekua
The book-record that Oier Guillan, Asier Sarasola, Idoia Bertarbide and Ander Fernandez have brought out is a rare jewel in the context of the bourgeois culture industry we’re surrounded by. Different disciplines are brought together in this collection of illustrations, a book and a record, which we can’t fit of the shelf, and that makes us doubt happily.
holes
Games in which you have to fill in the holes no longer frighten anybody, or almost anybody. We like these ones because they present themselves in a special, humorous way.
aki kaurismaki zikloa
In February and March this Finnish director’s films will be shown in Bilboarte. There’s no need to introduce the director. We’ll just say that he’s one of our favourites. Anyone who can shouldn’t miss the chance to see his films on the large screen.
