Fade

Yo la tengo

The more you listen to this record the more you find yourself being dragged into the songs, sweet slow laidback tunes that you’ll love listening to. These guys are veterans but every record they release is as fresh-sounding as their first. It’s been a long time since their last studio offering but the likes of “Stupid things” and “Before we run” has made for a really nice start to the year.

Arc

Everythinh Everything Arc

Arc is this Mancunian four-piece band’s sophomore
record. It’s full of impossibly structured songs and
the nifty vocal arrangements and use of electronica
give it a special touch. “Cough cough”, “Kemosabe”
and “Torso of the Week” are the high points on the album. They recently toured with Muse but it certainly doesn’t seem to have influenced the music in any way. Thank God!

California X

California X

If you miss big riffs and lots of distortion then this is the band for you. This Dinosaur Jr and Hüsker Dü –influenced power trio really rock it out on “Sucker” and “Spider X”. “Spirit world” moves into punk territory Turn up the damn volume sucker!

Lysandre

Christopher Owens

The band Girls having broken up, Christopher Owens
has begun his career as a solo artist. He has come
up with a concept here: a band that brings together
love and solitude. It all falls apart on “Part of me
(Lysandre epilogue)” but as this happens you get to hear blossoms like “New York City”. Short and structurally really well-rounded songs.

Awayland

Villagers

Irish musician Connor O’Brien and his band have some good songs on their new record. Their mixture of folk with a dabs of electronic creates a special sound and songs like “Earthy pleasure”, “Nothing arrived”, “Judment Call” and “The Waves” will really grab you. That said, the record loses strength on the sonic landscapes such as “Awayland”.

Guadalupe Plata

Guadalupe Plata

Guadalupe Plata have recorded their latest record with Ryan Anderson in Austin. The Andalusians are dancing with the devil on this one. It’s raw and painful with a sprinkling of the psychedelic. “Oh my bey”, “Rata” and “Lamentos” are just some of the profane sounds on offer. Get yourself a bottle of tequila and join in this dance of the dead.
