Basement Jaxx

Scars·XL Recordings

The duo formed by Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe chose house to base their songs on. They've managed to adapt their sound and rhythms to what's been in demand at each moment in time, and they've brought out songs going from Balkan rhythms to soul, hip hop and r&b. This piece of work may be a result of this process, it's a mixture of many different styles and Yoko Ono, Eli "Paperboy" Reed and Kelis have all collaborated on the album.

Nirvana

Bleach (20th anniversary deluxe edition)·Sub Pop records

The first album by the group that changed our adolescence has reached its twentieth anniversary, and that's a good excuse to talk about it here. It's obvious that Nirvana didn't create the whirlwind they did in the US here, but they did help us to wear big shirts, have long hair and the first long beards, and that was the first step we took out into the world. They recorded it in a few live takes and "Blew", "About a Girl", "School" and "Love Buzz" are part of our lives' soundtrack.
