aupa ETXEbeste!    The Grandfather, the father, the mother and the son. An ordinary family plays the leading role in this film. They are human protagonists. However, there is another main protagonist: A house. The Etxebestes’ house. A house that the grandfather, the father, the mother and the son should have left alone for months. For houses have also the right to enjoy holiday; or they should. However, with this family the house doesn’t get any holiday. They are planning to spend the summer hidden and locked in this house.

Etxebestes’ house could be any house in our town. An old, heavy and decadent house. It is furnished with some furniture made of cherry tree wood bought in a big factory in Burgos. It has some old photographs of the grandparents dressed in Basque beret and cloth and a huge TV, the latest model. Etxebestes’ house could be anywhere. We might even find it inside an industrial freezer in Pasai San Pedro. Etxebestes’ house could even be a fake house. One of those which appear in films: windows without glasses, bathrooms without water, stairs that lead nowhere...

A house, after all is just a space built in a piece of land or in the air. It is air put in a cage and decorated. It is an armored box in which we keep our souvenirs and garbage; an area that an earthquake or fire can make disappear; a false, expensive but necessary illusion. The house. Our father’s house. Etxebestes’ house.

The premiere of "Aupa Etxebeste" will be in 2005.
